Random fail

I went to get a random word for a random thing and this is what came up. :<

Dream doodles: Swimmer craft

8-4-10
Later, still somewhat lucid, I’m working on a more complete piece. It reminds me of painting digitally, but it takes up my whole vision, the colors blend very nicely, I can paint from different 3d angles, and I seem to have a (very low) level of interaction with the scene. It’s another warmswimmer by the side of a dock, waist deep in water, coming back from a swimming session. The sun is setting. I decide to include some sort of large cape/sail/craft behind him that he’s pulling along, so I begin to lay down some thick gray outlines of it. But the sun quickly goes out, like a candle, and I can barely see what I’m doing.

Sculptris

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

3d software fascinates me. I once went to a camp (in the loosest sense of the word) where I learned how to make 3d models in Maya. Then I found Wings3d and used it to make my very first webcomic. After that I found Blender, and now, through omega5ooo, I have found Sculptris. As far as I know it’s like Zbrush, but it’s free to download.

I’ve made some nalvots. And the paint function works pretty well. It’s just too bad that anything beyond 3d sculpting, such as rigging and animating and stuff, requires supercomputers and a whole team of animators.

It's a me

Still trying to get my own face right, and still trying to stretch style. This is my favorite attempt so far.

A little bit rushed, but I think the time limit helped with stretching the style. That’s what I feel like I need to work on.

Dream doodles: Manatee show

Jul 9 2010: A show comes on on a TV next to my bed. The only character is this cartoon manatee, who literally pops out of the screen! I reach out and can touch its nose, and hug it. Its skin feels rough and rocky. Otherwise, the character is interactive in the sense that many kid shows are (i.e. not at all).

Rena-Vek

Rena-Vek

(Sort of like Mary-Beth.) She lives during the nalvots’ industrial age.

I imagine a story with her would be from her perspective, being told to write as an outlet for her anger. I’ve had to do that a few times when I was younger. I was in the principal’s office for fighting a LOT, you have no idea.
Come to think of it, all my Nanowrimo’s so far have had a main character just punch someone upside the head. XD

Marathon mode? Oops

Marathon mode? Oops

I did not draw this (but I wish I did!) This was a super sweet deal of a commission by =fyuvix. It is quite silly. :D
I did the coloring and the shading. I’m out of practice on shading, and this scene was especially complex. Thoughts on it?
Here is the original lineart.

Pael

Pael

Parents, teachers, and movies all tell Pael he can do anything he wants when he grows up, even be an astronaut. Even though spacecraft was only designed for swimmers’ size, weight, and… four hands. But he’s gonna fly to the moon. Just you watch. :D

Oli

It’s been about a year since I introduced the nalvots, and I found myself unsatisfied with them. I think I know why: I don’t have many characters OF their species. Fixing that!

Luckily, I came up with Oli back in November as the main character for my Nanowrimo novel, The Raspaka Renaissance.

So with Jarros the warmrunner, that makes two, and I’ll make characters of the two cold-’s soon.

This is a guest comic I made for Space Base 8!
I highly recommend it if you like Planet B. It’s very creative and stylish, and has great characters. :D

I love love love love love how this turned out!

The flower is a toothpick with scrapbook flowers and a diamond bead. (My mom loves scrapbooking, she has so many craft things lying around.)
